Welcome to our boutique + our inaugural blog. We’re grateful to have you here with us + plan to post these from time to time to help you get to know us and what we’re about, including our mission to help women of any size + age feel good in the clothes they wear. But you’ll also see some fun stuff along the way (did someone say Travel Tuesdays?). To kick things off – we thought you might enjoy learning about how LiLi + KoKo came to be. There will be some laughs, maybe a few tears, but all in all our journey together has been one hell of a ride, so grab a cup of coffee (or a glass of champs) + sit back + enjoy! LiLi + KoKo is the brainchild of two women who met over a decade ago when they both relocated to Charlotte, NC + had the good fortune of becoming next door neighbors. Courtney (KoKo) is originally from Dallas + Lisa (LiLi) hails from Connecticut. They’re from different regions of the country, different age groups (Courtney’s in her 40’s, Lisa her 50’s), subscribe to different politics + religions, have different views on parenting (Courtney + her husband Chris have two beautiful children, Ashton & Jonathan. Lisa + her husband Todd are D.I.N.K.’s) (LiLi: hey don’t forget about Jack! Woof!) + take different approaches to beauty – think Sparkle Barbie vs. Boho Barbie, we’ll let you guess which one is which. But over the years, they’ve learned they’re also a lot alike. They like the same music, have a love of fashion for both the body + home, share a lot of the same ethics (+ the same shoe size!!!!), + don’t mind digging in + getting dirty to get the job done. Let’s not even begin to talk about their shared obsession with coffee + champs (KoKo: I mean who doesn’t love coffee + champs?) (LiLi: + not always in that order!) In 2010, Courtney’s first introduction to Lisa was seeing her on the sidewalk in front of her house throwing out F bombs because the builder had screwed up. (LiLi: They put the wrong facing on the front of the house y’all, cussing was warranted, no?) (Koko: Gurrl – damn straight, you don’t mess with a girl’s aesthetic). Courtney thought to herself, this girl’s crazy but I think I kinda like it. When Courtney went to see what the fuss was, Lisa got her first glimpse of her new neighbor + thought – wow, her hair, nails + makeup are perfect, who is this woman + how do I get to know her? Well, they got to talking, Courtney introduced herself + Lisa blurted out: “Hi, I’m Lisa your new neighbor + you’re gonna be my new best friend!” Courtney responded: “Um, ok!” + just like that, their lasting friendship was born. (KoKo: True story y’all) (LiLi: Damn straight). Over the years they’ve shared many ups: New homes, or in Lisa’s case, many new homes (KoKo: Girl, stay put please you’re making me dizzy) (LiLi: Can’t help it, I get bored) Kids graduating high school (LiLi: Wait what? Damn I’m getting old!) (Koko: Don’t even start) New jobs, some good, some… not so much (LiLi/KoKo: Ugh) As well as some downs: Loss of jobs… see above Family illnesses Loss of loved ones (LiLi: Not gonna lie, losing both parents within a year of each other sucked) (KoKo: Girl, I got you) Through it all, they’ve had each other. (LiLi/KoKo: Yes ma’am!) They started talking about going into business together several years ago + wondered how they could capitalize on their shared passion for fashion (LiLi: Hey that rhymes!) . But with many people, life kept getting in the way (KoKo: + Lisa kept moving) (LiLi: Hey!). Fast forward to 2020. December 2020: LiLi: “Courtney, I’m about to turn 50 + feel like I need to take a chance + go big on something. You know I’ve always wanted to own my own business. I love you + just feel like if we teamed up, we could kick some serious ass.” KoKo: “Aww, I love you too girl + I agree, we think alike, we’re always on the same wavelength, + we’ve been talking about doing something together forever. Let’s do it!” As their first love has always been fashion, they decided on a women’s boutique. (Side note: At one point Lisa + Courtney talked about building a sky way between their homes connecting their closets). Now while Lisa + Courtney share similar tastes, they have different body types; Lisa has an athletic build (LiLi: Code for small boobs), while Courtney’s more curvy (LiLi: Code for the boobs I’ve always wanted). It was therefore important to them to find an aesthetic that could appeal to everyone, no matter their size or shape. In addition, as they got older, they realized there was an expectation they should dress more conservatively (LiLi: Code for boring!) (KoKo: Oh, hell no!) + had a hard time finding clothes that still made them feel pretty (KoKo: + sassy!), but also didn’t show off everything (LiLi/KoKo: Some things people just don’t need to see) . So, while they’re young at heart, clothes geared to the 20 something crowd wasn’t cutting it (LiLi: You expect me to put my whole body into that? That won’t fit one of my thighs) . While the clothing geared towards women their age made them feel frumpy (KoKo: I’m older, not dead) . And LiLi + KoKo was born! Their mission is to offer quality, on-trend styles that are affordable for women of any size, at any life-stage. To make available pieces that are accessible, season concise, easy to mix + match + allow the wearer to move from Zoom meetings to date night without missing a beat. We hope you agree – they’re killing it! “You can have anything you want in life, if you dress for it” – Edith Head Follow us on social media to be the first to find out about new arrivals, events, offers + promo codes! LiLi Revisits Hotlanta (Atlanta) Hello Kittens – LiLi here. KoKo + I had the opportunity to travel to Atlanta a couple weeks ago for our first market together. Man are we excited about the awesome vendors + merchandise we saw and will be rolling out soon! I was especially giddy for this trip as it was a blast from the past for me. You see I went to fashion school in Atlanta (Bauder girls in da house!) + I used to work in the Atlanta Merchandise Mart back in the day. So I could not WAIT to get there + see everything again! Leading up to the trip I kept dreaming about riding up that escalator to the main level to see floor upon floor (upon floor) of vendor showrooms reaching to the sky. For a fashion lover (+ confessed shopaholic) it’s sensory overload in the best way! Well, the Mart did NOT disappoint. Not gonna lie y’all, I think I peed my pants a little when I hit that main floor. But being back in the ATL – I was also reminded of how vibrant + eclectic Atlanta is. There are beautiful aesthetics everywhere! Let’s start with the gorgeous hotel KoKo + I stayed at – Glenn Hotel on Marietta Street. The attention to detail throughout this hotel was stunning. From the cute lobby: To the beautiful view from their SkyLounge: Don't even get me started on their Southern Lionheart theme - we were obsessed with all the various + creative lion-themed artwork. A couple of our favorites were the dapper gentlemen scattered throughout the lobby and elevators. Along with the luxe Madame and her handsome prince in the main lobby. Being a southern girl, KoKo also fell in love with the southern lion message: But our absolute favorite was the “I am woman, hear me roar” piece we saw every time we got off the elevator for our floor. Everything about it was stunning: the dress, the photography, the artwork + of course the message. Koko + I had pre-dinner drinks at the SkyLounge. It was cute + intimate + the view of the city was awesome. They have live music there too, which was super cool. The view inside the lounge was also pretty fly. We could tell we were in a major city as everyone was dressed + ready for the night. They showed up with their fashion A-game! We were dazzled by all the beautiful ladies and handsome gentlemen. We kept oohing + aahing over their clothes + shoes. They made us wish we had packed different outfits for the evening! We got so caught up in enjoying the sights, we missed dinner at the hotel. Because I was just a few moments away from hangry, we decided to run across the street to Thrive Restaurant + Bar. Drinks + dinner were delicious! We shared the Crispy Calamari Rings (yum!), KoKo had the Hoisin Bourbon Glazed Salmon + I had the Garlic Shrimp & Grain Salad (you saw the jumpsuit I was trying to fit into, right?). While we were relaxing over dinner + strategizing about our plan of attack for the final day of market, we noticed a DJ setting up + thought cool, this place turns into a club later (put a pin in that). Back to the SkyLounge for more sightseeing, cocktails + music. Way too soon they were kicking us out (take note, they’re only open till 11pm). What are two ladies dressed up + ready to make a night of it to do? Back across the street to Thrive! We walked in + heard old school hip hop + were ready to dance! (Well at least I was, KoKo needed a bit more liquid courage). The place was empty when we arrived, but by midnight it was hopping. The DJ did a great job of sampling tunes that kept you moving. As the night progressed – he switched from old school, to current, and then to African inspired hip hop + we got to see Atlanta at its best. Side note: there may or may not be a Meme or video of me showing off my moves out there on the net. I saw a girl pointing her phone at me and smirking. She was either super impressed with how I throw my vibe down or was making fun of the old white lady who thinks she can still dance. I’m going to choose to believe it was the former. Because we knew we had to get to market early, we called it a night at 1am. We jumped out of bed the next morning ready to go! Okay, I jumped, KoKo kind of fell - neither one of us are morning people, but the excitement of getting back to the Mart gave me some extra oomph. While we couldn’t wait to get to Market someone (it was ME!!!!) was hungry. Guess I should have had more than just a salad with all that dancing I did the night before. We hit the Metro Café and Bar, a 24-hour diner/bar/karaoke joint. And like most American diners the food and coffee were exactly what two hungry (notice I said hungry, not hungover 😉) girls needed. Who knew pies and cakes could be so beautiful – almost made us want to skip breakfast and go straight to dessert. But we had a lot to accomplish and couldn’t afford the sugar crash later! After hitting the Mart we had some time before we needed to head home, so I asked KoKo if she would indulge me so we could check out some of my old haunts. We drove by beautiful Piedmont Park (I was always obsessed with that area and was convinced I would live there one day). We drove by beautiful Piedmont Park (I was always obsessed with that area and was convinced I would live there one day). Credit: Shutterstock I showed her my old street in Buckhead (it looks nothing like it used to) + we of course had to check out Phipps Plaza (Bauder College used to be in the basement of the mall) + Lenox Mall (which is now 2-3x the size of what it was when I worked there during college). Unfortunately, our time came to an end + we had to leave knowing we only scratched the surface of what the city had to offer. We will be heading back in June for market + will be bringing our hubbies. We plan to take advantage of (and for me to get reacquainted with) some of the other amazing sites in Atlanta – the aquarium, the Coke museum + and a Braves game. We can’t wait! Well, signing off for now so I can help KoKo get all of our new inventory loaded. Let us know where you’re going next and what you plan to see. We’d love to hear all about it. And don’t forget to share your pics so we can visit along with you! The City That Lives Up To Its Name Hey Kittens - LiLi here. When talking to customers they often ask me “What brought you to Greenville?” which leads to a discussion of not just how my husband Todd + I got here, but what keeps us here. The first part is easy. The pandemic lockdown had just begun, which meant a cancelled trip to the Caribbean + us looking for somewhere to go where we could get out + explore. Todd had been reading a lot about Greenville, SC + telling me about the downtown waterfall (Wait, holdup. There’s a waterfall in the middle of the city? That’s insane!), the multiple parks, the walking trails + nearby lakes. He had been bugging me to go there for a while. So, with some time on our hands + nothing to lose - we decided to head to “Yeah That Greenville” to check it out. We confirmed The Residence Inn was open, which meant with their built in kitchenettes we had a way to feed ourselves + figured even if everything was closed, we could walk around + get a sense of the city, take advantage of the trails + then go back post-lockdown for the full-on experience. When we arrived, we were immediately awed by the downtown waterfall (more on that later) + the city’s overall beauty. Even though our entertainment options were limited, we could get a good vibe of Greenville walking around. Several hours after arriving, as we were riding our bikes on the Swamp Rabbit trail, Todd turned to me. "Uh oh, you've got that look on your face", he said. "What look is that honey?" "We're moving again, aren't we?" "Damn straight", I said. "I absolutely love it here!" What made us pick up + move to GVL + decide to launch LiLi + KoKo here? So many things y’all it’s hard to decide where to begin! There's a reason Greenville is voted #1 on multiple lists like The 10 Friendliest Cities in the U.S. + The Best Place to Live? . Greenville has also landed on many others as a great place to live such as Living in Greenville, SC + 5 Reasons to Call Greenville, SC, Home , as well as visit like 10 of the Best American Cities (Travel & Luxury) + Fall in Love with Greenville . To tick off the top 3 reasons why we (+ so many others) find Greenville attractive: The Food - This city is yummy! Greenville has made a name for itself as a foodie destination + there is no shortage of family-owned restaurants in town. There is literally something for everyone. Greenville is also the first city we’ve been to in the South that caters to vegetarians & vegans. It's easy for Todd + I to find somewhere to eat, as well as places that cater to both us + our carnivore friends + family. The Arts - Not to brag (but I will), Greenville has more culture to offer than Charlotte + Atlanta. Yup, I said it. Multiple museums, a vibrant artist community, a rocking music scene, multiple theaters that host local + national shows, nationally recognized arts + music festivals, a zoo, + the list goes on. Todd + I have seen more shows + attended more festivals in the two years we’ve been here than we ever did in the eight years we lived in Charlotte. The Community - Greenville is a city that is large enough to offer great arts + entertainment but is also small enough to be a community. There's a reason why it was named #1 friendliest city as outlined in the article linked above. But more than that, Greenvillians look out for their own. Whether that's through community support programs like Project Host (who happen to have one of the best food trucks in the area, wink, wink) or the Mill Village Ministries who not only provide community services, but also a pathway to entrepreneurship for residents. Speaking of entrepreneurship, as soon as KoKo + I learned how much the city of Greenville does to support small businesses, we knew it was the right place to launch + grow LiLi + KoKo Boutique . It's not just the city that supports local businesses, the residents of Greenville make sure the small businesses in their communities thrive by supporting them. There's just a vibe to this city that is hard to put into words. I can honestly say this is the first place we have lived where we feel at home (+ we have moved around a lot y'all). But there's another reason why we love living here. It's because Green ville is a city that lives up to its name. I mean there's a waterfall right in the middle of downtown! Okay, that's technically blue not green, but you get where I'm going with this. The city of Greenville has over 40 city parks + gardens within the city limits, which occupy more than 400 acres of land. Falls Park on the Reedy is the most commonly visited because of its central location in downtown + has been named #1 by USA Today several years. A great family oriented park is Unity Park , which sports picnic shelters, playgrounds + a splash pad for the kids, as well as easy access to The Commons for some good adult beverages. One of my favorite tucked away spot is Rock Quarry Garden. This little oasis sports its own waterfall + rock ledges, along with lots of beautiful trees + flowers. It's a favorite spot for weddings + photo shoots . In addition to the copious number of parks in the area, the city itself sports lots of greenery. As you walk along Main Street, you can't help but notice the numerous trees, bushes, + planters dotted up + down both sides of the street. + Main Street is not alone. As you drive around town, the city is full of vegetation + flora everywhere. The city of Greenville takes their name seriously, which is why in 2021 they passed a tree ordinance that requires both developers + homeowners to replace any trees they remove in the city. My absolute favorite part of my day is my daily walk with my pup Jack as we stroll through Falls Park. Our favorite route we take is through Cancer Survivors Park where we say hi to the beautiful The Welcome statue. Then on towards Cleveland Park past the Major Rudolf Anderson Jr. Memorial + towards the zoo. The best days are when the monkeys are active. I can't tell you how many calls I've been on where people have asked "Where the heck is going on over there?!" when they hear the monkeys grunting + squeaking during feeding time. "It's not me LOL, it's the monkeys!" During the spring, the flowers along our journey are breathtaking. But the best part? Our journey takes us past the waterfall twice every day. Our daily walks make my heart happy. As you can tell, there are many reasons to love Greenville. So, the next time someone asks me “What brought you to Greenville?” I think I'll just sum it up by saying: "Everything".
